B-52 engaged in preliminary air drills.
Joint military drills involving both the United States and South Korea are scheduled to begin on March 13 and last eleven days. In a statement released by both countries, they say the drills will involve air, land, sea, space, cyber and special operations exercises by their militaries.
In a preliminary training exercise, the U.S. deployed a B-52 long-range bomber plane in the skies over the Korean Peninsula on Monday. The nuclear-capable B-52, often considered the backbone of the Air Force, is capable of high-altitude flight and subsonic speeds.
Both nations anticipate that North Korea will see the exercises as a threat to their national security. If history is any indicator, they will respond by test-firing of ballistic and cruise missiles and flying fighter jets next to the DMZ (the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea).

- For the commanders overseeing the joint drills with South Korea.
- For U.S. and South Korean officials as they anticipate a response from North Korea.
